A Catalogue of an Exhibition of Pottery at The Fine Art Society, William and Walter Moorcroft 1897-1973, 4 December to 15 December 1973 at 148 New Bond Street, London W1. Signed inside the front cover by W. Moorcroft (Walter) in ink. 128 pages, many black & white and colour illustrations. Condition: Softcover, shelf wear, impressions and very light creasing. Rear white cover grubby, slight corner bumping and darkening to edges. All pages clean and intact.


Richard Dennis put together this exhibition to trace the development and illustrate the work of William Moorcroft and this catalogue has many examples of both William and Walter's work.

EPNS Egg Cruet

Carlton Ware Barge Pattern Chinoiserie Bowl

A large Carlton Ware Chinoiserie Bowl on blue ground, c.1923. Chinoiserie in gilt and bright enamel colours depicting pagodas, causeway, bridges and figures on punt boats. Pattern number 2519. Wilshaw and Robinson Crown backstamp (1894-1927) to base. The Barge pattern is one of the rarely seen chinoiserie patterns. The bowl diameter measures 22 cms, height 10 cms. In very good condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or restoration.  Very minimal wear to gilt around top rim, very slight enamel loss to large pagoda lower roof which can be seen on photograph 2, minor scratches to the glaze in base of bowl which do not detract from the piece but mentioned only for accuracy.

A Clarice Cliff Butter Dish and Knife Gift Box in the Waterlily pattern. Its very rare to find such pieces in their original box. Printed and impressed marks, butter dish shape 983, box measures 14.5 cms by 16 cms. Condition of the butter dish and knife: very minimal crazing, 1 pin prick of body unglazed on the front of the butter dish. Apart from this the pieces are in as new condition. Box, in good condition with all corners intact, small residue of price ticket to front cover. No chips, cracks or restoration to any piece.

A Clarice Cliff Canterbury Bells Pattern Octagonal Plate, Fantasque Bizarre printed mark, Newport Pottery and also painted 'Canterbury Bells' to underside.  Hand painted. This pattern was only made between c.1932-1933. In good condition with some paint loss to inner rim, probably caused by the plate being stacked. One tiny 4 mm chip to underside of outside rim which does not detract from the piece. No cracks, crazing, hairlines or restoration. Diameter 22 cm.

A Troika Pottery Slab Vase with glossy blue tin glaze, incised with a stylized flowerhead. Early St. Ives Mark. Height 11.5 cm, width 6.5 cm.

From the very early days of Troika when the Pottery was based at Wheel Dream near Porthwidden Beach, St Ives, this smooth medium Slab Vase is typical of the work produced by Lesley Illsley and Benny Sirota in the early 1960's.

The base is marked with the printed backstamp indicative of an early and rare St. Ives piece and is normal with early St. Ives vases, there is no decorators mark.
